Nanyin Maymura bark paintings are often separated into schematic panels separated by vertical and horizontal features. His backgrounds are completely covered in rarrk crosshatching in traditional motifs. He often depicts possums which relate to the Marrngu ancestral story a creator ancestor of his Manggalili People. His animals are usually black face and are static and formalised. These stark animal elements contrast with the intricate background to create an optical clarity.
Along with many other Arnhem Land Artists who did bark paintings, there is not a lot of information readily available about Nanyin Maymura. If anyone knows more information about the biography of Nanyin Maymura, please contact me as I would like to add it to this article
